What we've got in store for 2025

Truth be told, we haven't done a great job at handling the site these past couple of months. We've been mostly focusing on getting more albums added to the library, recognising that our selection is still significantly smaller than those of other sites.

It's not the only thing that we've been working on though and today we're excited to announce the features that we, if things go well, will have implemented before the year ends. The features below will be added individually or batched in small groups, so expect plenty of new things to look forward to every month.

So without further ado, let's get into it all!

Tags

The importance of tags cannot be underestimated. They're used to find content that you enjoy and avoiding that which you do not. Tags are a powerful tool, but introducing them is no small task. The system itself has been ready for a while now, albeit untested under real circumstances, yet the tagging itself remains a major pain point.

Tags on Hentai Academy are also going to function a bit differently to existing platforms, as you'll soon come to understand.

Tagging

Tagging itself will consist of the usual suspects, namely tag categories and content tags, such as tentacles, futanari, or anal, but what makes Hentai Academy stand out is that we plan on tagging individual pages, not albums, providing you with fine grained control to see only what you want to see, and to ensure that you don't get tricked by a 250 page album that turns out to only contain three pages of that thing you like.

Blacklisting

You probably don't want to see everything, since some things are likely to be unattractive or even disgusting to you, so we want to give everyone the ability to simply hide albums or pages containing those tags.

The first step will block any album that contains a tag that you've blacklisted, but we're working on efficient ways to allow "soft-blacklisting", where albums still show, but pages do not. That way, we can maximise your enjoyment without risk of you encountering something you do not want to.

Sensitivity (blurring by default)

Let's be honest with each other, regardless of whether you enjoy such things or not (no judgement), certain things are just not that popular. That's why we're planning on introducing a feature that blurs potentially sensitive things, such as scat, lolicon, or bestiality, by default, without otherwise obstructing your flow.

Legality (hiding illegal tags based on region)

It's impossible to get around the fact that some things that are legal in Country A might not legal in Country B, so in an effort to avoid getting blocked by ISPs, we're aiming to build the foundations for a system that anonymously detects locations (self-hosted, extremely course country determination, no storage, and run-time only) and blocks any tags that have been flagged for said location.

Your privacy is of utmost concern to us, so we will not introduce this feature unless we can guarantee your anonymity. Generally speaking, we recommend using a VPN for privacy, though we cannot endorse using such things to get around legal issues, so please use them responsibly.

Bookmarking

Bookmarks don't really need that much explaining, so we'll just cover these quickly.

Album pages

You'll soon be able to bookmark individual album pages, in order to quickly return to your favourite parts again and again.

Video timestamps

Bookmarks shouldn't just be for albums. You'll absolutely find scenes in our video library that you'd like to return to as well, which is why we intend to introduce down-to-the-second bookmarking of video timestamps!

Searching

This has been a long way coming and we apologise for not having it out sooner. Searching, to us, is a tool that requires a lot of thought put into it, so we've been kind of thinking too much and acting too little.

That said, soon you'll be able to search, sort, and other good stuff, including combination searches of tags, free text, album size or video length, etc. so keep your eyes peeled for the most in depth search you've ever seen on a site like ours.

User profiles

We want to eventually turn Hentai Academy into more than just a site where you can look at pornography, so user profiles will eventually be more thought out and useful, but for now we want to focus on providing you a space where you can keep all of your stuff.

You should expect profile to change a few times throughout the year, but you can read about some of our plans below.

Favourites

You'll want to be able to quickly find your favourite things, so we expect to have these front and centre, and they'll likely be the first thing we add to the profile page.

Likes

Likes, to us, is a way of signalling to other users that a particular thing is good, so we expect to have your likes be a little less dominant on your profile than your favourites. Just keep that in mind for now and, if enough users feel that it should be different, we might revise it later.

Bookmarks

Bookmarks are likely going to be more important to you, but we're still considering their hierarchical importance relative to favourites. It's also difficult to determine, and this goes for likes and favourites as well, whether we should combine album and video bookmarks or keep them separated.

Blacklisted tags

We want to add an easily accessible list of your blacklisted tags, to ensure that you can quickly at or remove blacklisted tags. Managing your blacklisted tags might not be a task that you'll end up doing often, but it's one that should be easy for you to do at any moment.

History (maybe)

It still hasn't been decided yet, but we're mulling over the idea of introducing a (most likely optional) history feature, so you'll be able to see whether you've read an album or watched a video before, while also allowing you to backtrack and find what you might have forgotten to bookmark - or that you just want to have another look at.

Overhauls

Aside from all of the new stuff that we're looking to add, we've also been wanting to take some time to improve the existing stuff, since much of it was made in kind of a rush to get Hentai Academy online, so to speak.

As such, here are a couple of things that we've got in store on that front, with the visual identity already being in progress, as you'll notice if you are a returning user.

Video player

The video player as it is right now definitely works, but we've noticed several issues, including the bottom bar never hiding, sound not always being properly muted across page loads, and it not being particularly mobile friendly.

Our goal is to not just fix these issues, but to completely rewrite the video player from the ground up, focusing on quality, usability, and additional features.

Album reader

The album reader definitely needs some love. You can currently choose between a page-by-page reader or an infinite reader, but we want to add right-to-left reading support and other improvements, both in regards to design and functionality.

Comments

Comments aren't exactly the most used features, given that we currently suffer a rather limited amount of users, but we still want to give the commenting system a bit of a shine up.

We want to allow users to upload a profile picture that will show next to their username, with a random one being assigned when the account is first created, and we want to add the ability to reply to other people's comments, though a dedicated notification centre is not guaranteed to arrive this year.

Visual identity

Hentai Academy was created in kind of a rush and we've been busy working on features under the hood ever since, so the look of the platform isn't as tasteful as we'd like it to be. You can expect to see significant changes to the design over the coming months, but we intend to do this incrementally, so forgive us if, for example, the home page suddenly looks like an entirely different website than the album reader.

DMCA requests

We believe that it's in everyone's best interest if we respect copyright, which is why we intend to introduce a quick and easy way to get in touch about copyrighted items. The content on this platform does not belong to us, so it's our responsibility to treat the authors, artists, and publishers with the respect that they deserve.

We've also been playing with ideas on how to funnel any potential earnings from this platform back into the hands of authors, including stockpiling physical or digital copies, based off of how much user engagement that same content has received on Hentai Academy, but this is still far off, as it's a difficult thing to implement.

Feedback form

Your feedback is invaluable to us. We may have plenty of ideas, experience, and technical expertise, but we cannot build the best platform if you aren't here to let us know what that looks like, so we'll be implementing an easy way for you to anonymously provide us with feedback directly on the platform.

In the mean time, if you have feedback, found a bug, or just want to chat, hit us up at [email protected].
